I thank my parents for the way they treated me as a child. They instilled in me the confidence to choose my own path, but with guidance from those who knew more.
Parenting comes under the general topic of Social Issues, which is common in IELTS. The relationships that people have with their parents is discussed every day worldwide. Therefore, it is expected that any adult can recall their own experiences, good or bad, and give an opinion on how they think children should be treated by their parents. The connection between parenting and a child's success may be made.
In the IELTS Speaking Test, the topic of parenting could be come up on a personal level (Part 1 or 2) or in a more abstract way (Part 3). You may have to speak about one of your parents or another person who played the role of the principal carer, perhaps a grandparent or family friend. It could be just a quick mention or become an extended answer.
Here is a video to help you add vocabulary and ideas to your language bank on the topic of PARENTING.
